SMITH 2004 CAMPAIGN ENTERS SECOND PHASE
The campaign to nominate science fiction author L. Neil Smith as the
Libertarian Party's 2004 presidential candidate has entered its second phase.
The initial effort was announced on a few LP mailing lists, and has so far
garnered support and endorsement from 37 states and the District of
Columbia; it has also begun placing copies of the campaign book, _Lever
Action_, in libraries across the country.
Phase two is where you come in -- if you're receiving this, it's because you're
one of several thousand Libertarians subscribed to one of many mailing lists
that discuss our party and its candidates. Part of phase two is letting YOU
know about the campaign. And now you do.
You may have supported the effort to draft Neil in 2000. If so, it's time to get
an early jump this time around.
You may live in Arizona, where Libertarians had the opportunity to vote for
Smith in the November, 2000 election. If so, help us bring that opportunity to
the whole nation next time.
* We're placing books in libraries. Only five so far -- but with your help it can
be hundreds or thousands over the next three years.
* We've created banner ads and are preparing to buy advertising on freedom-
oriented sites. Grab one of these banners and place it on your personal site.
* We've created the new "draft Neil" petition. Goal: 1 million signatures before
the 2004 LP national convention. We need YOUR signature -- and the
signature of everyone you know. And everyone that the people you know,
know. Or something like that. Lots of signatures, at any rate.
* We're challenging the FEC with an outright refusal to file reports.
* Coming soon will be printable brochures and flyers for distribution at
Libertarian and other freedom-oriented events; talk radio appearances.
This campaign is real, and it is serious.
This mailing is a one-time thing; in the spirit of not spamming, I intend to
remain subscribed to each of the lists receiving it for a minimum of one
week, and reply as needed to messages. If you want to send a personal
note, however, please use my personal address (tlknapp@free-market.net) --
this mailbox is going to be a bear to maintain, and I don't want to miss
anything.
If the list you are reading this one is not intended to be open to campaign
and candidacy announcements, I sincerely apologize. I did my best to select
only lists that seemed to encompass such announcements in their
guidelines.
