The example of Ron Paul has the following problem: He never told anyone he was pro-choice. We all knew that was a point of conflict but it mattered less to most of us because within the LP there had been a long term disagreement on the issue of abortion. Principled people were still exploring the issue, which still has no concensus. I do not know anyone who disagreed on the issue of gun ownership and the unacceptability of statutory limitation of that right. I know no argument that could possibly convince me that a person who disagrees on that issue should be representing the LP as a canidate. We may not have the facts. Perhaps he was misquoted. He should be given a chance to clarify his stance. But if he believes the State has a role in limiting the 2nd Amendment he should not be running for office as a Libertarian.
