Two thoughts about the Sacramento Bee article re El Al.
1. It's interesting that the Bee never mentions that El Al includes an armed guard on every plane. Surely this deterrent is just as important as thorough baggage searches.
2. The reason El Al takes such extreme measures to protect its aircraft and passengers is that it is involved in an ongoing lowkey war with neighboring states. If the USA chooses to be involved as an accessory in this war, and chooses to pick fights with other nations too, presumably it should face the need for comparable security measures. If the USA honors George Washington's admonition against foreign entanglements, and attempts to achieve neutrality comparable to that of Switzerland, presumably the need for security measures would be far less acute.
