Somewhere in the Washington Post article on the considerations of duress was a brief mention of something even more chilling: the use of duress against family members of the suspect. At least with the torture of the subject (bad as it is), there is some comfort in the knowledge that the duiress is not extended to one's family. But if things get really nasty, the USA might outsource such duress. Are we ready to accept the torture of, say, a 10-year in order to get dad to spill the beans? (If we do, what kind of people have we become?)
