Michael Giardello worked a long time as a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent in Arizona State. He is Al Giardello's estranged son who left Baltimore to work in the FBI. He appears in the series in the first episode of season seven, when he came to Baltimore to a family members funeral. Murdered Italian was Mike's second father, who took care of his family when Al was preoccupied with work, so he insisted to help his father's unit in investigation. He secretly, without Al's knowledge, helped Falsone and solved the case.

After that he was transferred from Arizona to work with Baltimore Police Department's Homicide unit, and showed himself and his FBI connections useful in closing cases. He has very problematic relationship with his father Al. When Mike was a child Al worked hard to advance in Police Department and, because of that, neglected his family. Mike never forgave him that. Al and Mike both try to normalize their relationship, but Mike still hasn't the best opinion of his father.
