Luther is charismatic, ruthless, east-side drug lord who is responsible for at least 13 murders, 9 on Giardello's shift. He removed everyone who is on his way, pissing off Homicide detectives, especially Kellerman and Lewis. He used some of his drug money to fund neighborhood projects, like the Mahoney Youth Center, and almost whole community thought that he is a benefactor. His heroin was packed in bags marked with two stars so that they could be recognizable by his buyers. And whenever Homicide detectives arrested him, Luther was released due to lack or evidence, or witnesses weren't ready to testify against him, because they were afraid of Luther's revenge. His nephew Junior Bunk was going to testify against his uncle until given a warning while under police custody. The usually smooth Mahoney lost his cool, when a dead drug courier leads to a major sting operation to bring him down. The Feds, along with Lewis, Kellerman and Stivers, switched Mahoney's heroin with baking soda, creating problems throughout his organization. Eventually, Mahoney escaped to his apartment, though without his ever-present bodyguards. Lewis caught up with him, and started beating him, when Mahoney took Lewis' gun, just before Kellerman and Stivers arrived. With his gun lowered, Mahoney laughed at Kellerman, who killed him in cold blood, but the shooting was called justified. Later, at the end of season 6, Gee found out the truth and forced Kellerman to quit. |
