Battle 34: The Second Arena of Combat
Honda is now stuck in a room where huge blocks are falling from the celing. Jono-uchi, Anzu, and Yugi have are safe. The latter was saved by Honda. Seto Kaiba, watching the whole sharade, tries to compare them to the chess pieces. According to him, Yugi is the king, Jono-uchi the knight, and Honda the bishop. The bishop has fallen. Mokuba comes in and asks him why Seto said Yugi would be beaten only in Stage 5 of the Death-T, even though he has to duel Mokuba in Monster Capsule chess in Death-T 4. Seto tells his litle brother that he doesn't think Mokuba can beat Yugi yet. He wants Mokuba to surrender, since the loser of game will be punished very harshly.

Meanwhile, for the first time, Yugi tells Anzu and Jono-uchi about the memory holes he has been having lately, associated with the moments when he transformed into his "other Yugi", Yami Yugi form. Jono-uchi and Anzu assure him that nothing will destroy their friendship, not even those memory holes. Then, the three of them move on, to find themselves in a huge arena with thousands of spectators. It's the 4th stage of Death-T. Yugi has to duel Mokuba in a Capsule Monster Chess game, while Jono-uchi, Anzu, and Gorgie are held back at gunpoint.

Battle 35: A deadly Battle of Chess!
Before the duel, Mokuba and Yugi have to pick their monsters at random from a Bubble-gum machine style apparatus. Yugi gets the weakest monsters, while Mokuba gets the most powerful ones. Yugi has already transformed into his "other self" again, who is certain that Mokuba cheated somehow, probably by fixing the outcomes of the draws. Mokuba had actually done that.

The Capsule Monter Chess party starts with Mokuba advancing his army of very powerful monsters towards the puny monsters on Yugi's side. Yugi's monsters are all of low level, but fortunaely, some of them have special abilities, which allow Yugi to use special startegies to beat Mokuba. For example, one of Yugi's monsters can hide underground, and another one self-destructs on contact. While Mokuba is preoccupied with these monsters, Yugi quietly advances one of his monsters towards the "power-up" zone on Mokuba's side of the field. The young Kaiba brother can't do anything to stop it, and he eventually loses the game with Yugi's final attack.

Battle 36: A final Ruthless Battle
As Yugi walks away from the duel box, Seto's face shows onone of the screens. Seto tells Yugi to take an elevator to reach him, in order to face him for the final level of the Death-T. Meanwhile, Mokuba has to be punished, since only the winner leaves the Duel Box unharmed and untouched. Even though Mokuba literally begs Seto to spare him, Seto punishes him anyway. Digital monsters start attacking Mokuba. Fortunately for the young brother, Yami Yugi opens the door of the Duel Box and saves him from death, disgusted at the idea that Seto would even kill his own brother because he lost at a game. Then, Yugi takes the elevator to reach Kaiba. Jono-uchi and Anzu also go upstairs, since their armed guards tell them to do so. But Jono-uchi intelligently nabs the guard's cell phone and calls Hamasaki (see minor manga characters), who is at the hospital, guarding Sogoroku Muto. Hanasaki tells Jono-uchi that Sogoroku's condition is not enviable.

Everyone goes upstairs, as the final Death-T round, the duel between Seto Kaiba and Yami Yugi (he isn't called Yami... He's just "the other Yugi") starts. Seto is extremely confident, but Yugi trusts the cards his grandfather gave him. Even when Seto explains that he has 3 Blue Eyes White Dragon cards in his deck, Yugi obstinantly and blindly trusts the deck that Sogoroku gave him.

Yugi starts te duel by summoning the guardian of the City Yokolku, which beats Seto's Cyclops. (Seto's LP: 1800).

Battle 37: Battle!! Battle!!
As the crowd gets amazed that Yugi even beat a single one of Seto's monsters, Kaiba summons the malevolent Worm Beast, which is yet again defeated by Yugi's monster, thanks to its aerial attack. Then, Kaiba sets a monster in defense mode. Yugi does the same, but Kaiba then summons Saguy the malevolent Clown, and activates the magic card Magic of the Shadows, allowing Saguy to destroy Yokolyu. (Yugi's LP: 1600). Yugi keeps putting monsters in defense mode, hoping to draw a card that would allow him to win before Seto draws one of his Blue Eyes White Dragons. But instead, he keeps drawing useless and weak cards. As Jono-uchi and Anzu get worried, Yugi finally draws a monster that would make a huge difference: Gaia, the knight of the shadows. Gaia destroys Saguy, decreasing Seto's life points to 1300. But unfortunately, immediately after that, Seto draws one of his Blue Eyes White Dragon cards, destroying Gaia, and decreasing Yugi's life points to 700. Everyone believes the game is already over, except for jono-uchi and Anzu, whos till keep their faith in their dear friend.

Battle 38: The Terror of the Blue Eyes
Yugi draws bad cards, and keeps putting them all in defense mode, to create some sort of a filter zone between the Blue Eyes and his life points. But all his efforts prove to be quite useless when Seto draws and summons his second Blue Eyes white Dragon. But Yugi is motivated by his grand father, and believes he has to win. And he draws the card he needs: Hikari No Gofuken, which keep the monsters unable to attack for 3 turns. The dragons are imprisoned within light swords, and Kaiba starts getting a little worried. And even though Jono-uchi and Anzu encourage him, Yugi knows he still needs a lot to win against Seto Kaiba. In his hand, there are three cards, all of them quite useless. But then, Yugi remembers how his grandfather once told him that the cards can sometimes act like a puzzle, they need to be assembled together correctly in order to be strong. At that point, Yugi realizes that the three weak cards in his hands are none other than the three pieces of the legendary monster, Exodia. Yugi then draws a fourth piece of Exodia. Now he only needs one last piece. But Kaiba summons the Judge Man, who is not affected by Hikari No Gofuken card, and is able to attack. As a response, Yugi summons the Black Magician and destroys it. Unfortunately for him, Kaiba then summons the third Blue Eyes he has, who is not affected by the magic card, and attacks the Black Magician. Yugi's life points equals 200 now, and it is the last turn of his magic, he only has a single draw before the Dragons are free to attack.

Battle 39: The Conclusion of the combat
As Jono-uchi and Anzu try to encourage him, Yugi understands he is in a very big hole. Three Blue Eyes White Dragons facing him, he only has a single draw to bet on. And his only chance of winning is if he draws the fifth and last piece of the legendary monster Exodia. Yugi understands that expecting that is quite impossible, since he has very low chances of drawing it out of his whole deck. But in that condition, he remembres the oath they all made, to stay together, forever, and the friendship symbol Anzu drew on their hands.

With a resolute face, certain that his friends are with him, Yugi draws the top card of his deck, and to the utter disbelief of his opponent, he summons the legendary monster Exodia. Exodia destroys all three Dragons with a single blow, and turns Kaiba's 1000 life points into 0.

Battle 40: A disfunction in his soul
As Seto still looks at the "other" Yugi in disbelief, the other Yugi decides to punish him, to teach him the pain he was inflicting upon other people. As a punishment, the other Yugi shatters the soul of Seto Kaiba, turning it into thousands of pieces. At that precise moment, Honda springs out of nowehere and attacks one of the men who were holding Anzu, Jono-uchi and Gorgie as hostages. Jono-uchi then attacks the other one. But the previous one stands up and is about to shoot Jono-uchi in the head, when Mokuba comes in and stops him. Then, Honda explains that Mokuba, after his duel against Yugi, and Yugi's rescue, had stopped the falling cubes and had rescued Honda from certain demise.

Then, Mokuba explains why his brother is so insensitive. Their parents died very early, and their relatives sent them to an orphanage. When they were children, Seto made a chess champion adopt Mokuba and him, by beating him in chess. He had cheated. Then, Seto and Mokuba lived a terrible life under the leash of Gozaburo Kaiba, their adoptive father. Seto, one day, took over Gozaburo's corporation, Kaiba Corp, with the help of the staff, when he was 16 years old. Gozaburo threw himself out of the window, not able to sustain the defeat. From that day on, Seto had never smiled again, not because of Gozaburo's death, but because of his constant competition and complex of superiority.

Yugi then tells Mokuba his brother will be fine, he just needs time to reassemble his soul from the thousands of pieces that were caused by the punishment.

Battle 41: In search of love
Anzu is in her house, still thinking of Yami. Yugi, on the other hand, is preapring to go to school. His mother tells him to go downstairs, since Anzu is waiting forhim to walk to school together. Anzu greets him by telling him that the aptitude exam results were going to be posted that day in school. Then, she give shim a machine, in which data is inserted, and when two people who are supposed to "be meant for each other" are close, their machines should beep. Anzu hopes that their machines will beep when Yugi inserts his data, but nothing happens.

In school, the aptitude exam rankings are posted, but Jono-uchi, Honda, and Yugi don't care. They have crated some sort of a game the play wiht the rankings, and Yugi wins as usual. They don't even check their ranks. Butthen, one of their teachers coms in, telling them to take their lessons more seriously and to play less, since Yugi ranked 372nd out of 400, Honda raknes 380th out of 400, and Jono-uchi rankes 392nd out of 400. While saying this, the teacher finds the machine that Anzu gave Yugi, and is about to crush it, when the other Yugi comes out and challenges him to a game: The teacher can hide the machine wherever, and he will have an hour to find it. If he doesn't, he is expelled, if he does, he gets to keep it.

The game starts, but Yugi, Jono-uchi and Honda can't find it anywhere. But then Anzu gives him her own machine, blushing madly. The other Yugi then promises Anzu to find his own machine using hers. They all go to the teacher's office, where they think the machine might be hidden. And suddenly, after Anzu's machine starts beeping, to her great joy. Yugi's machine was hidden under the teacher's wig, and Jono-uchi and Honda get it back.

Anzu gets her machine... And a significant wink, from the other Yugi. yet again, she blushes madly.

Battle 42: A million Yen are mine!
Jono-uchi is going to participate in a game show, in which he can win 1 million Yen. He says if he wins the money, he'll pay all of his (drunk) father's debts and live a better life.

As the game starts, Jono-uchi does pretty good, even though the tasks are extremely difficult. He wins some smaller sums of money by shootinga dart at a rolling disk, and by performing other tasks. The last taks is another rolling platform, and if it lands on 1 million, he will win the money. The show executives, however, plan to make Jono-uchi lose. They have a set of buttons, and the red one stops the platoform whenever they want to. Yami finds out, and challenges the executives to a game: He gives them each a rope, and they have to pull it. The first executives pulls the rope, which is tied to a can of paint. The can falls and colors all the buttons, thus the executives cannot distinguish the one they had colored before. Yami punishes the executive by making him see money all around him.

Jono-uchi wins the game, but the station files for bankrupcy, and all his dreams dissappear.
