Oakland stakes starter Loaiza to a 3-1 lead early, but Placido Polanco and Magglio Ordonez start a 4-run uprising in the 4th inning. Polanco and Ordonez single to start the inning, with Craig Monroe driving in Polanco, and Ordonez scoring on Alexis' Gomez's 2-run single.

Gomez adds 2-run homer in the 6th off Loaiza opening up a 7-4 lead.

Justin Verlander survives his early struggles to give Detroit 5 1/3 innings and pick up the win.
