After entering the game to face Reed Johnson with the bases loaded, Jeff Ridgway hits Johnson with his 1st pitch to force in the winning run. Chicago had forced extra innings on throwback day celebrating WGN's 60 years broadcasting Cubs baseball, when Jim Edmonds homers with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th.

Edmonds had pulled Chicago within 2-1 with a Sac Fly in the 7th. Atlanta had jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Jeff Francouer's 2-run HR in the 2nd before settling down to a pitchers' duel between Tim Hudson and Carlos Zambrano.
