Game Notes

Diamondbacks beat the Phillies 4-3 in a battle of ancient southpaws.

Jamie Moyer and Randy Johnson matchup for the 2nd time in less than a month, establishing a new mark as the oldest matchup of lefties in MLB history, at a combined age of 84 years and 90 days. Once again its Johnson dominating early, striking out 6 while allowing just 1 single in 6 innings. Johnson departs with a 1-0 lead thanks to Eric Byrnes' HR leading off the game, and earns his 283rd career win, matching another ancient left-hander Jim Kaat for 30th all-time.

Moyer allows a second solo HR to Byrnes in the 8th, and a 2-run blast by rookie Mark Reynolds before departing with 2 outs in the 8th. Arizona survives a late rally when Ryan Howard hits a sharp line drive into the shift, allowing the Diamondbacks to turn a double play and end the game.
