With Jeremy Sowers and Nick Blackburn locked in a 1-1 battle, Mauer's 2-run HR in the bottom of the 7th breaks the tie. Brandon Harris adds an RBI-double scoring Randy Ruiz. Ruiz, a 30-year-old rookie, makes his MLB debut, going 1-for-3.

Blackburn goes 7 innings, allowing 6 hits, 1 walk and 1 run. Sowers is the hard luck loser, after allowing just 2 hits and 1 run through 6 innings before falling apart in the 7th.
