Justin Duchscherer and Huston Street combine to 1-hit Boston. Duchscherer takes a no-hitter into the 7th inning before David Ortiz singles up the middle with 1 out. He recovers to hold the Red Sox hitless through 8, with Street coming in to close it out in the 9th. Duchscherer allowed just 1 base runner prior to Ortiz's single, when he hit Jason Varitek with a pitch. He walked none and struck out 4.

Josh Beckett is nearly as sharp, allowing just a single run on a fielder's choice in the 2nd. But Ryan Sweeney connects off Beckett with a solo HR in the 7th, and Oakland tacks on an insurance run in the 8th.
