Game Notes

Chris Gomez hits for the cycle as the Twins rout the White Sox 13-1.

Gomez completes the rare feat in the reverse order, becoming the first Minnesota player since Kirby Puckett in 1986 to record a cycle. Gomez leads off the game with a solo HR, then added an RBI-triple in the 5th for a 2-0 lead. After the Twins tack on 4 more runs in the 6th, highlighted by Nick Punto's 3-run double, Gomez scores Punto with a double to left for a 7-0 lead.

Gomez completes the cycle when he leads off the top of the 9th beating out an infield single. Minnesota adds 6 more runs in the inning, on a night when the Twins collect 16 hits and incite Mark Buehrle to take a bat to a dugout heater repeatedly after he was removed from the game in the 6th.

Livan Hernandez experiences no such frustration, crusing along for a complete game, with a solo HR by Jermaine Dye in the 9th denying him a shutout.
