Game Notes

Wildcats stage an improbable comeback, and Hawkeyes commit an undeniable choke job, as Northwestern wins 28-27.

Holding a 27-14 left with just over 3 minutes remaining, Iowa's defense completely fails. Northwestern converts all 3 3rd downs, including a pair of 3rd-and-10 situations, on a 77-yard scoring drive capped by Tyrell Sutton's 1-yard TD run. Northwestern manages to run 12 plays in 1:10. Northwestern then recovers the onside kick and manages to cover the 47 yards in 6 plays, thanks in part to an unsportsmanlike call against Iowa. Brett Basanez hits Ross Lane with a 9-yard TD pass w/ :42 left in the game.

The Hawkeyes waste big performances by Drew Tate and Albert Young. Young runs for 202 yards and 2 TDs, while Tate goes 21-of-35 for 275 yards and runs for 1 TD.

Basanez throwing 51 times, throws for 338 yards and 2 TDs, while Mark Philmore catches 10 for 123 yards.
