Game Notes

#16 Nittany Lions make a big statement upsetting the #6 Buckeyes 17-10 in a defensive battle.

Penn State can only dent Ohio State's defense for 195 yards, but come up with timely plays and strong defense to win. Trailing 3-0 in the 2nd quarter, true freshman Derrick Williams caps a 74-yard drive by the Lions with a 13-yard TD.

Penn State's defense, which holds the Buckeyes to 230 yards, comes up with the game's 1st turnover, as Calvin Lowry intercepts Troy Smith, returning it to the 2-yard line setting up Michael Robinson's 1-yard TD run. Smith scores on a 10-yard run, cutting it to 14-10 w/ :33 left in the 1st half.

But Penn State's defense shuts out the Buckeyes in the second half, holding Smith to 154 total yards in the game, and Tamba Hali's sack and forced fumble late in the 4th quarter seals the win.
