Ventrell Jenkins returns a fumble 56 yards for the go-ahead score, moments after another fumble return for an apparent score is wiped out following a replay review. The ensuing PAT is blocked, the 3rd block of the game, however, Kentucky denies East Carolina's final rally attempts.

Leading 10-3 in the 2nd quarter, Patrick Pinkney hits Darryl Freeney with an 80-yard TD pass 1 play after Lonas Seiber's FG gets Kentucky on the board. The Wildcats begin their rally when David Jones returns the 2nd half KO 99 yards for a TD, however, the PAT is blocked, maintaining a 16-9 lead for East Carolina.

Mike Hartline's 19-yard TD pass to Kyrus Lanxter draws Kentucky even. Ben Hartman and Seiber trade FGs tying the game 19-19 setting the stage for the late game fireworks.
