Game Notes

East Valley Wildcats stage a stunning 41-40 win over Colton to capture the Citrus Belt Conference championship.

Backup QB Mike Stadler comes off the bench, replacing injured starter junior Ronnie Fouch (Washington), on the final drive, going 5-of-9 for 52 yards, hitting tight end Lance Evboumwan (Arizona State) with a 19-yard TD pass w/ :01 left. Then Stadler finds Evboumwan for the winning 2-point conversion. Evboumwan has 9 catches for 92 yards.

The dramatic winning drive came on the heels of a go-ahead drive by the Yellowjackets. Bradley Sorenson hit LB/RB Allen Bradford (USC) with a 7-yard TD pass and then a 2-point conversion to go up 40-33 w/ :55 remaining. Bradford had started the night scoring on a 68-yard TD run on the game's opening play. Bradford finishes 127 yards rushing.

East Valley had just completed a comeback from a 32-21 deficit. LB/RB Derrell Acrey (Boise State) scored on a 8-yard run to put the Wildcats up 33-32. However, Fouch was injured leading up to the score. Fouch finished 20-of-41 for 164 yards and 1 TD, while rushing for 53 more yards.

East Valley's WR Isaiah Burel (Idaho State) catches 3 passes for 26 yards, including a TD, and also scores on an 89-yard KO return. East Valley also includes OT Carl Wilson (Kansas) and junior LB Andre Ferguson (Idaho).

Colton appeared to have the game in control thanks to its trio of stars. CB/WR Jimmy Smith (Colorado) helps the Yellowjackets to a 32-21 lead after intercepting Fouch at the 2-yard line as East Valley threatened to go-ahead, then Smith follows it up with a 76-yard TD reception on the ensuing possession. Smith has 5 catches for 165 yards.

Meanwhile, Yellowjackets CB/RB Shareece Wright (USC) contributes 3 TDs, running for 73 yards and 2 TDs, while adding 2 catches for 44 yards and another TD. Colton includes sophomore S/WR Daniel Sorenson (BYU).
