Game Notes

Bellevue Wolverines break out to a big lead, then hold on to upset Long Beach Poly, #3 in the USA Today Poll, 30-16.

The Wolverines, ranked #17 in the poll, took a 22-3 lead early in the 3rd quarter. Junior RB Anthony McQueen has 157 yards on 7 carries, setting up 2 TDs with runs of 44 and 57 yards, and scoring on a 22-yard run for a 15-3 lead in the first half. Junior QB Eric Block (Washington State) starts Bellevue's scoring with a 4-yard TD run.

Running behind lineman Stephen Schilling, a Michigan recruit, the Wolverines run for 315 yards. Thomas Zaffino adds 2 TDs for Bellevue, which also features Washington State-bound back Keith Rosenberg.

Long Beach Poly rallies in the 3rd quarter. Fullback Ryan Smith (Sacramento State) scores a pair of TDs to close it to 22-16. The second TD follows a fumble recovery by USC-bound LB Alfred Rowe.

The Jackrabbits lose star RB Troy Guthrie to an ankle sprain during the rally, after rushing for 44 yards on 8 carries. However, Poly's passing attack which features standout WR recruits Terrence Austin (UCLA) and Travan Patterson (USC), can't make enough plays between mistakes. QB Millicent Olawale throws 3 interceptions, including one by Rosenberg that seals the victory.

The Jackrabbits also feature CBs junior Donovan Warren (Michigan) and Vincent Joseph (USC), lineman Conan Amituani (Arizona), OT Drew Dunkley (Northern Colorado), junior DE Kenny Rowe (Oregon).

The Wolverines also include junior DE Travis Anderson (Idaho State).
