Game Notes

#2 Byrnes Rebels beat #5 Glades Central 27-15 in a battle of USA Today top 10 teams.

Rebels QB Willy Korn (Clemson) goes 18-of-28 for 268 yards and 3 TDs, overcoming 3 INTs and a fumble. The Raiders, however, are unable to overcome 150 yards in penalties (results of playing on the road in an intersectional high school game?) that wipe out 1 TD, 2 PATs, and several big gains.

Korn gives Byrnes a 7-0 lead, hitting Antonio Snoddy with a 36-yard TD pass. Glades Central appeared to answer with a 61-yard TD run by RB/S Damien Berry (Miami). However, the TD is called back for a clipping(?) penalty. Berry does cut it to 7-6 with a 27-yard TD run in the 2nd quarter.

Korn connects with junior Randall Hawkins (South Carolina State) on a pair of 2nd quarter TDs, first a 47-yarder, and then a 7-yarder to give Byrnes a 21-6 lead w/ 4:55 left before half. Hawkins finishes with 9 catches for 149 yards.

The Raiders cut it to 21-15 on a 29-yard TD pass from Bryan Mann (Florida International) to Deonte Thompson (Florida) w/ 7:44 left in the 3rd quarter. However, Byrnes puts it away with a 10-yard run by freshman Marcus Lattimore (South Carolina) in the 4th quarter.

Byrnes defense holds the Raiders to 168 yards offense, with DE/LB Stanley Hunter (Clemson) leading the way. Hunter records 3 sacks. The Rebels also include LB Chad Diehl (Clemson), junior DE Everett Dawkins (Florida State), junior DB Cartier Rice (Kentucky).

Berry finishes with 99 yards rushing for Glades Central. Mann goes 15-of-23 for 123 yards. Thompson has 5 catches for 51 yards, while adding an INT. Defensive lineman Semori Novembre leads with 10 tackles and 1 INT, while Javaris Motley adds an INT, and S/RB Johnnie Lee Dixon (Auburn) adds a fumble recovery.

Glades Central also includes OT Jatavious Jackson (South Florida), G Ernest McCoy (LSU), DT Kenneth Fitzpatrick (Florida A&M), junior G Jarien Moreland (Central Florida), junior LB Eddie Poole (Rutgers), junior WR Travis Benjamin (Miami).
