Game Notes

Pittsburgh Central Catholic overpowers Gateway for a 42-27 victory.

The Vikings, ranked #9 nationally by USA Today, get more big plays in getting the win. LB/FB Anthony Bailey (Maine) picks up a fumble and returns it 82 yards to give Central Catholic a quick 7-0 lead. Gateway answers when freshman Robbie Kalkstein connects with Cameron Saddler (Pitt) for a 48-yard TD pass.

The Vikings go up 21-7 after Lamont Smith (Colorado) finds the end zone twice, first scooping up a blocked punt and taking it 18 yards for a score, and again on a 1-yard run. Saddler continues to try and answer for Gateway, taking back the ensuing kickoff 85 yards for a TD.

Smith reaches the end zone again, on a 10-yard run for a 28-20 lead. Smith rushes for 114 yards befpre leaving after 3 quarters with an ankle injury. Bailey steps in, scoring a TD, while junior QB Tino Sunseri (Pitt) adds a 28-yard TD run.

Kalkstein goes 8-of-11 for 120 yards. Gators' TE Jon Ditto (Penn State) has 2 catches for 24 yards. Gateway includes junior LB Shayne Hale (Pitt), junior CB Jon Pryor (Eastern Michigan).
