Game Notes

William Floyd Colonials outlast Baldwin 34-27 to capture their first Long Island championship.

Sophomore Brock Jackolski (Hofstra) runs for 232 yards and 4 TDs on 19 carries, leading William Floyd. Jackolski puts the Colonials ahead 7-0 with a 4-yard TD run on the opening drive. However, the Bruins answer with an 8-yard TD pass from Joe Vanella to Aaron Weaver (Hofstra). Vanella throws for 4 TDs.

However, William Floyd's running game is dominant. Jackolski breaks free for a 72-yard TD run. But Vanella and Weaver connect on another 8-yard TD pass, cutting it to 14-13. Jackolski responds again with a 7-yard TD run for a 21-13 lead at the half.

The Colonials' running game continues to dominate in the 2nd half. Jackolski breaks loose for a 64-yard TD run on 4th-and-1 in the 3rd quarter. However, holding a 27-13 lead, Jackolski fumbles 3 times in a short span. The Bruins finally capitalize when Brendan Murphy corrals a deflection and races 67-yard for a TD from Vanella, followed by a 2-point completion to Weaver.

William Floyd gambles again on a 4th down, and converts for the 4th time, when QB Terry Stoner ends up with a 20-yard TD and 34-21 lead with 1:48 left in the game. However, Baldwin's hopes are not over, Vanella hits Chris O'Donnell with a 6-yard TD pass, cutting it to 34-27 but the Colonials recover the onside kick.

The Colonials also feature LB/RB Blair Bines (Rutgers), who dominates as a lead blocker while recording 6 1/2 tackles.
