Game Notes

Flint-Powers Catholic holds off Grand Rapids-Catholic Central for a 17-10 win and 1st state championship.

Powers Catholic Chargers capitalize on their big plays for the victory.

After Mike Zureikat's 40-yard FG gives the Chargers a 3-0 lead in the 1st quarter, Cougars RB/DB Vince Agnew (Central Michigan) breaks loose for a 78-yard run, but is brought down short of the goal line, and Grand Rapids CC is forced to settle for a FG.

Powers Catholic grabs the lead in the 2nd half, when sophomore Ronnie Lark gets behind Agnew and hauls in a 73-yard TD pass from junior Spencer Hickoff. The Chargers extend the lead to 17-3 with a 28-yard TD pass from Hickoff to Laval Lucas-Perry.

Lark finishes with 210 total yards. Hickoff goes 8-of-13 for 152 yards.

The Cougars pull to within 17-10 on Tyler Sandner's 6-yard TD run set up by a 72-yard pass from Sandner to Cody Spielmaker. But Grand Rapids CC's final bid stalls at the Chargers' 44 with just over 2 minutes remaining.

Powers Catholic also includes G Nick Brown (Northwood), TE Josh Babcock (Northwood) and DB Dain Murphy (Northwood).

The Cougars also includes RB Obi Ezeh (Michigan) who rushes for 50 yards on 12 carries. Agnew runs for 89 yards and intercepts 1 pass, but also is victimized on both TD passes.

Grand Rapids CC also includes junior OT Mark Huyge (Michigan), junior LB Chance Coda (Southern Illinois).
