Game Notes

Unionville-Sebewaing Area pulls off the upset, beating St. Martin dePorres 14-7.

The Patriots defense stops the heavily-favored Eagles, handing them their 1st loss in 13 championship game appearances. Both 1st quarter possessions by dePorres start in U-SA territory, but neither result in points, including one that stalls after 1st-and-goal at the 7.

A 4th quarter bid to tie the game ends when Benjamin Hoppe stops David Grimes (Notre Dame) inches short of the end zone. A final bid ends when Steven Koch intercepts soph Justin Siller (Purdue) at the 7-yard line.

The Eagles get their only score when Grimes scoops up a fumble and returns it 36 yards for a TD w/ :53 left in the 1st quarter. Grimes finishes with 5 catches for 39 yards on offense.

The Patriots pull to within 7-6 on Jordan Bitzer's 9-yard run on a QB rollout with 2:11 left in the 1st half. U-SA takes the lead on a 3-yard TD run by Lance Travis (Grand Valley State) in the 3rd quarter. Travis runs for 89 yards while catching 2 passes for 25 yards.

Unionville-Sebewaing also includes junior DT David Kingsley (Saginaw Valley State).

Siller goes 13-of-21 for 124 yards but also suffers 2 sacks and 3 INTs. DePorres also includes junior RB Anthony Bowman (Iowa).
