Game Notes

Denton-Ryan Raiders dominate Brenham 38-8 for their 2nd consecutive state championship.

Quarterback James Battle accounts for 323 yards and 4 TDs, while Phillip Jones catches 5 passes for 157 yards and 2 TDs for the Raiders.

After Denton-Ryan strikes first with a 21-yard TD run by junior Earl Goldsmith (Missouri), Brenham converts 3 4th downs on its way to a 1-yard TD run by Jeremy Lewis. After a bad snap on the conversion, Clay Van Hook tosses to John Addicks for the 2-points and 8-7 lead.

That is the Cubs' last highlight. Battle connects with Jones on a 44-yard TD pass, then adds an 8-yard TD run late in the 2nd quarter to give the Raiders a 24-8 lead. Battle extends the lead with a 71-yard TD pass to Jones in the 3rd quarter. Battle's 6-yard TD run in the 4th quarter caps the scoring.

The Ryan defense dominates with junior DT Derek Lokey (Texas) recording 10 tackles, while junior LB Xavier Kelly (Arizona) has a pair of sacks. The Raiders defense also includes DE Jarvis Moss (Florida), S Charlie Jefferson (Texas A&M) and junior DE Calcius Williams (Missouri).

Brenham includes WR Limas Sweed (Texas), WR Jeffrey Filmore (Houston), G Duston Moore (Arkansas) and OT Wade Sisk (TCU).
