Game Notes

Tyler-Lee captures its first state title, holding off Spring-Westfield for a 28-21 victory.

The Red Raiders take a 28-7 lead, but must withstand the Mustangs' 4th quarter rally. Tyler-Lee's Tyrone Ross leads the way with 173 yards rushing and 1 TD.

The Red Raiders get on the board first when defensive back Jason Stripling (Washington State) intercepts a pass and returns it 69 yards for a TD. However, Westfield responds with an 81-yard TD run by junior Terrence Sweeney on the very next play. Sweeney rushes for 157 yards.

Tyler-Lee retakes the lead following a 13-play, 70-yard drive all on the ground before fullback Peyton Price (TCU) scores on a 1-yard run w/ 3:45 left in the first half. Ross starts the 2nd half with a 10-yard TD run, then Price pulls in a 25-yard TD paas from Josh Hill.

The Mustangs answer when Pierre Beasley (Rice) hits Michael Ridge with a 75-yard bomb to make it 28-14 w/ 9:08 left in the game. Beasley then follows with a 4-yard TD run, but Spring-Westfield's final hopes end when Warren DeHaven picks Beasley with :22 remaining.
