Game Notes

Franklin Sabers overcome a big blunder and big rally to beat Brookfield Central 36-29 in OT.

The Sabers appear to have the game under control, scoring 22 straight points to take a 29-14 lead in the 3rd quarter. But pinned deep in their own territory in the 3rd quarter, Franklin chooses to put its backup QB in and throw on the first play. Travis Maze intercepts the pass sloppily thrown into an area with several defenders and no receivers, and returns it 12 yards for a TD, starting the Lancers' rally.

Mike Bogard hits tight end Rob Korslin for an 81-yard TD pass, and then the pair combine on an improbable 2-point conversion to tie it. Bogard, being tackled in the backfield blindly heaves the ball backwards into the end zone where Korslin catches it in traffic.

However, with Brookfield Central missing a pair of FGs in the 2nd half, Franklin reaches OT where Robert Evans hits Geoff Stuhr for a 7-yard TD, and then the Lancers' junior Drew Herma fumbles as he's hit trying to dive into the end zone.

Evans' winning TD caps a huge day, as he sets the Division 2 championship record with 264 yards passing and 4 TDs, while rushing for 140 yards and 2 more TDs.

Herma runs for 144 yards for the Lancers.

Brookfield-Central includes junior punter/kicker Bradley Nortman (Minnesota).
