Game Notes

South Park Eagles hold off Greensburg Central Catholic to win 24-20.

Quarterback Conner Dixon (Michigan State) adds a critical defensive play, intercepting the Centurions' final hope after Greensburg CC had reached a 1st-and-goal situation in the final seconds. It was the second big play by a South Park offensive star. After junior Cody Catalina (Syracuse) scores on a keeper for the 2nd time, the Eagles' Tyler Scruggs (West Virginia baseball) leaps over the line and blocks the PAT, leaving the Centurions with a TD-or-bust situation at the end.

Scruggs starred at RB, rushing for 97 yards and 2 TDs, the 2nd pulling the Eagles to a 14-14 tie just before halftime. The Centurions had built a lead on the strength of 2 huge plays. Catalina hits Chris Stem with a pass, and then he laterals to junior Nick Sukay (Penn State) who completes the 52-yard TD off the hook-and-ladder play. Stem then catches a 55-yard TD pass from Sukay off the receiver pass.

Sukey finishes with 179 total yards. Catalina passes for 136 yards. The Centurions also include junior RB/LB Max Suter (Syracuse).

South Park strikes in the 2nd half when Dixon connects with Brandon Detwiller on a 74-yard TD pass to take a 21-14 lead in the 3rd quarter. Dixon finishes 11-of-18 for 221 yards.
