Game Notes

Cardinals turn to a familiar victim to snap their 0-8 start and win 16-10.

St. Louis gets in the win column by beating the Eagles for the 9th straight time, as the Cardinals defense forces 4 turnovers, including the deciding one, an INT in the end zone by Roger Wehrli with under a minute remaining. Philadelphia, which earlier in the 4th quarter, was stopped inside the 10, marched 53 yards to the St. Louis 7, before Ron Jaworski throws the critical INT.

The Cardinals appeared destined to suffer continued bad luck. Jim Bakken misses a FG in the 1st quarter, then misses the PAT after Jim Otis' 6-yard TD run gives St. Louis a 6-3 lead in the 2nd quarter. In the 4th quarter, a potential clinching 24-yard TD run by Wayne Morris is called back, forcing the Cardinals to settle for a 31-yard FG by Bakken and 16-10 lead instead of a 10-point lead.

Philadelphia had taken a 10-6 lead on Jaworski's 33-yard TD pass to Harold Carmichael. But following an INT by Ken Stone, Jim Hart hits rookie Dave Stief with a 55-yard TD pass w/ 1:11 remaining in the 1st half.
