Emails From Zach's AMPLATZER® Duct Occluder Catheterization

Saturday, July 19, 2003:

Dear Friends and Family,
We just wanted to let everyone know that Zachary had an Amplatzer ductal occluder placed in the anomalous vein off his coronary sinus last Friday via a heart cath by Dr. Tom Zellers. He was very impressed by how good Zachary's prior repairs looked during the cath. The vein could not be reached by the first groin entry, so through the neck it was. Everything went well, although he was very nauseated upon awakening in the recovery room and threw up any liquid he tried to drink for awhile. When he threw up his incisions would bleed, but that stopped soon enough. His O2 saturation has gone from 88% at rest to 95-96% at rest and he certainly is a lot PINKER. He had been desaturating to 80-84% with activity. We stayed the night with him and he was able to come home this morning. He's doing great. Kindergarten starts in about 4 weeks so the timing is perfect. Thanks for all your support!
