    1. Product requirements
      1. Platform. The system shall execute on the Windows 2000 platform.
      2. The response time for each transaction must not exceed 2 seconds, and should perform instantaneously for the vast majority of the transactions.
      3. Reliability of database. The system should use a reliable database management system. All database updates must be dependable.
      4. Interoperability of report formats. The system shall be capable of generating report data in text format for interoperability between this system and other systems in the company, such as the Accounts Department software and the Purchasing Department software.
      5. Robustness. The system shall be built with a robust error recovery routines to handle system failures and to enable 24 x 7 operation, 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.
    2. Organizational requirements
      1. Reliability of access. The system should be reliably accessed over the company intranet.
      2. The database to be used shall conform to the current database system used by the company, namely Microsoft ACCESS 2000.
      3. Scalable. The K4 e-Inventory is scalable to use MS ACCESS databases or the higher end database management systems such as SQL Server.
      4. The Web Server must be able to run in Microsoft Internet Information Server version 5.0
      5. The Web pages shall use Hypertext Markup Language, HTML running on Internet Explorer.
      6. The database connectivity shall use Active Server Pages, ASP version 3.0
    3. External requirements of the K4 e-Inventory Control System
      1. Interoperability with Purchasing. The system shall be able to interoperate with the current Purchasing Software System.
      2. Interoperability with Accounting. The system shall be able to interoperate with the current Accounts Software System.
      3. General Interoperability. The system shall be able to generate reports in text, XML, or recordset format in order to interoperate with a wide variety of third party software.
      4. User Friendly. The system should use familiar user interfaces such as that used to surf the Internet.
      5. Modularity. The Inventory Control system should be able to operate on its own. It is independent of all other software systems except the underlying operating system.
      6. Affordable. Being a modular system, the K4 e-Inventory Control System can be purchased module by module.
      7. At the same time, there is an upgrade path to purchase additional modules such as Purchasing and Accounting if the Company does not already have suitable systems to perform such functions.
      8. Integrated. The K4 e-Inventory is part of an integrated set of software to provide the total solution to all your Company needs.
      9. They systems shall have a valid license and not violate any intellectual property rights of other software development organizations.
