SELENE

Selene is the Moon goddess of the Greek. The daughter of Hyperion and sister of the sun god Helios. The tutelary deity of magicians, she rides in a chariot drawn by two horses. According to legend she fell in love with the sleeping Endymion, unable to resist his beauty, she abandoned her nocturnal duties and crept down to lie gently beside her lover. Zeus, angered by the darkened sky, decided to punish Selene and ordered that Endymion should sleep forever. But even that could not break the love she had for her beautiful swain and, to this day, Selene slips away for a few nights each month to caress her sleeping lover, leaving behind her the darkened moonless skies. She becomes largely syncretized with Hecate and in Roman culture equates with the goddess Luna.

She is responsible for guiding the Moon across the skies.
