ZUIPEN IN UTRECHT   No. 1 MONDAY SEPTEMBER 4TH, 2000 Page A

A
eetcafe A.C.U.
Voorstraat 71
A slightly alternative joint with a slightly alternative audience, to say the least. Originally an uninhabited building illegally occupied by homeless youngsters, it was legalized about a year ago and now homes a bar (with unknown opening hours) and irregular concerts, mostly by bands from the alternative circuit. Relatively cheap and visited almost exclusively by regulars. (This information may or may not be slightly out of date as we haven't visited this place in ages; looking through the window from outside, we did however notice that the entire interior has been rebuilt (practically from scratch) to something really... really... porsche.) 9 FEB 00

Achter St.-Pieter 3

Utrecht's smallest bar, named after the street it is located in. A place with a particularly loose interpretation of closing times: the door closes at 6 AM, which doesn't imply anything about the time you should actually leave. It attracts a mixed crowd of customers, and often Dutch music is played. Among the strange snacks served at the bar are carbonade (pork chops), bal gehakt (greasy meatbal), and BiFi worstjes (try them--it's a way of life!). Surprisingly unknown, given its central downtown location. The Dutch association of translators meets here every first Wednesday of the month. 10 FEB 00
