Woolmer do not get too excited about Shaun Pollock : by Sailesh
Bob Woolmer has recently compared Shaun Pollock with the great Garry Sobers. Shaun is definitely a good all-rounder and has potential to become all rounders as Kapil Dev, Ian Botham, Imran Khan and Sir Richard Hadlee.
Here is the comparison of figures
Batting
Name Tests Runs 100 50 A ve
Garry Sobers 93 8032 26 30 57.78
Richard Hadlee 86 3124 21 5 27.16
Kapil Dev 131 5248 8 27 31.05
Imran Khan 88 3807 6 18 37.69
Ian Botham 102 5200 14 22 33.54
Shaun Pollock 21 849 0 4 32.65
Bowling
Name Balls Runs Wickets 5’I 10’M Ave
Garry Sobers 21995 7999 235 6 0 34.03
Richard Hadlee 21918 9612 431 36 9 22.30
Kapil Dev 27740 12867 434 23 2 29.64
Imran Khan 19458 8258 362 23 6 22.81
Ian Botham 21815 10878 383 27 4 28.40
Shaun Pollock 2850 1860 75 0 0 24.8
From this figure it very clear that Shaun is yet to mature into an all-rounder
status though he definitely has potential to become all time great
all-rounders. South African coach is making remarks and his comparison with
Sobers it to early for such comparision. He is yet to score a century in test
matches, he is yet to take 5 wickets in an Innings and 10 wickets in a match
which is true reflection of a batsman or bowler. He has not won any test
match on his own single handedly for South Africa. Mr Woolmer. Please note,
do not overrate your player. He is yet to prove as great.
