Observations on Running and a Runner's World by Joe Salow.

The Friendship of Running

Hello, fellow New Hyde Park Runners. Spring is here and with it cones a renewal of spirit and the joy of being a runner.

On September 1, 1987, I made a historic and momentous decision. One that I have never ever regretted. I joined the New Hyde Park Runners' Club. From the very beginning I sensed something special about this group - - a group wherein I found many close ties and friendships.

I have been to weddings, christenings, funerals, parties, races, and marathons. I have listened to stories of happiness, tragedy and despair. I have finished marathons because of my running friends presence cheering me on.

One of my most memorable occasions is dancing to Meat Loaf's, "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights" at the Ocean to Sound Relay Races/ the saying,"It just doesn't get any better that this" is very appropriate, The comradery of an all-day race and the partying afterwards is an unforgettable experience,

All of the races, car pools and celebrations remain forever etched in our collective consciousness as New Hyde Park runners. It's a thrill to have such friends.
