Wanted: The Family
"From the day your baby is born, you must teach him to do without things. Children today love luxury too much. They have execrable manners, flaunt authority, have no respect for their elders. They no longer rise when their parents or teachers enter the room. What kind of awful creatures will they be when they grow up?"- Socrates (469-399 BC)

This paper researches whether the family is really declining. Since there is a lot of unrest about it, I decided to put this work on the net. I also hope that this paper will find a broader public then it would find in the library of our faculty...
There are many concerned voices to be heard about the state of the family, not only in The Netherlands, but also in America, England, and other countries. In The Netherlands there is an ongoing debate in the political arena and in the media. This debate began in 1995 when the former chairman Heerma of the christian democratic party (CDA) proposed the idea of installing a minister for family affairs. The members of the CDA were very worried about the individualization and fragmentation of society.
