8th International Congress on Obesity (ICO'98) August 29 - September 3, 1998 Paris, France

Background

Obesity is a worldwide epidemic. There are more than 350 million obese individuals worldwide. The NIH report released in June Clinical Guidelines on the Identification, Evaluation, and Treatment of Overweight and Obesity in Adults defines a body-mass index (BMI) of 30 or greater as obese and one of 25-30 as worthy of concern. Calculate your BMI.

Obesity is associated with such health problems as diabetes, gallstones, hypertension, and heart disease. Obesity is also linked to colorectal cancer and to breast, uterine and ovarian cancer in women and prostate cancer in men.

Congress Organizer

The International Association for the Study of Obesity (IASO) has 5000 medical and health professional members through affiliated National Associations in 30 countries. It is working in research of obesity prevention and treatment, and is associated with several large organisations including the WHO.

The Congress is going to be participated by more than 2000 delegates from 47 countries.
