*Genesis & Helen*
Four hours after she fell asleep, she woke up again
to her mother tapping her on the shoulder.
"Genesis wake up."
Genesis groaned and sat up. "What?"
"I'm home today," her mother said happily.
Genesis stared at her blankly. "And?"
"I'm here! Let's do something!"
Genesis groaned. Whenever her mother was home,
she always wanted to do anything mother-daughter.
"Mom. I fell asleep four hours ago. I want to sleep,"
Genesis said groggily.
"Why so late?" her mother asked.
"I had weird dreams," she answered.
"Oh."
"Mom go away."
Helen sighed and turned to leave. When she
reached the door she turned back and said, "Let's
do something today. You can sleep for a couple more
hours then get dressed and go someplace."
"Fine. Go."
Genesis was not a morning person. As far
as she was concerned, World War Three could begin
just as long as it was quiet. She fell back
asleep and at noon her mom woke her up again. She
decided she was in no mood to fight and got dressed
and went downstairs.
"So what do you want to do today?" Helen asked.
"I don't care," Genesis replied, sitting down
at the kitchen table with her cereal.
"How about the mall?" Helen suggested.
"Ok," Genesis answered, brightening a
little. She loved the mall.
When she was finished eating, the two of
them drove to the Downtown Tulsa Mall. Tulsa was
definately bigger than Genesis had expected.
They walked in the doorway of a Sam Goody store.
"Mom!" Genesis called. "Look!" She pointed
to Hanson's new CD. *AN: People this takes place in
the summer of 1998, so pretend Hanson put out a new album.*
"So?" her mother asked, confused.
"They live next door!" She yelled. "I have
been hanging out with them ever since we got here."
"Cool."
They looked at a few more stores. Genesis got a
new outfit, and her mother bought a new lamp for her room.
Soon they went to the food court to fill up.
After a day at the mall, Genesis and her mother went
home. Genesis collapsed on her bed. The entire time at the
mall, she had been thinking about the girl, Gretchen.
She wondered why she was having those dreams,
and why the poor girl and her mother were so brutally murdered.
They had seemed so innocent. Did they really do something bad?
she wondered. She didn't know, but she knew if she didn't
find out why, she would be tormented with these thoughts for a long time.
