I have been riding since I was 4 years old...a pretty long time...
Right now, I ride in equestrian events such as showjumping and a bit of eventing..
My first competition horse was a cute, stocky and gorgeous 14.2hand chesnut pony
called Kiwi Gold. I loved this little monster so much and when my father decided to sell
it cos I've overgrown it..I was heartbroken. Little Kiwi bit everyone and kicked
many people but I know he'll never hurt me..he was like my pet but the last pony
anyone would call a pet. Kiwi was quite old but in his early days, in New Zealand,
he won the Showjumping Pony Of The Year Award...a pretty big achievement for a small horse.
He could jump 1.8metres and entered Pony Grand Prixs....but that was quite sometime ago.
Kiwi gave me my first taste of victory...but in a junior class...he was extremely fast,
agile and difficult to ride but i managed and won quite a number of ribbons with him.
Kiwi is now retired to a farm which we sold him to and I visit him once in awhile and it's
really obvious he misses me too.
My second horse was Gemini. A beautiful 15.2hand American Quarter Horse that was so honest
and sweet everyone loved him. He had a gorgeous body and he was a rather smart horse.
He was overall probably the horse I trusted most in my life. He was the best trail horse,
brave, fast, full of stamina - the qualities in this horse was countless. But one thing set him
aside from being perfect - he hated most other horses that were affectionate to me, especially
Kiwi and he had the bounciest gaits around. I rode him so very often on trail and he was my best trail leader.
No beginner on a bad horse could overtake him and if it happened he would be fast enough to overtake them. He
was excellent on trail so I took him in eventing cos he could jump really well too. We went clear across
country and he didn't run off or anything, he followed me. We got shortlisted for the National Young Rider
Eventing Team after that. We went as a great partnership through years but one day, someone working
at the club, got jealous of me and her wicked heart decided to have revenge that she couldn't get into the team.
So one day, she put poison in poor Gemini's food and two days after that, while being groom, Gemini had a shock,
fell backwards on his spine thus breaking it and he died immediately. I was the most shaken of all the people
there for I was right behind him and if he didn't fall a bit sideways, I would have got crushed under him...
I know the moment he fell he couldn't be saved, he just took one look at me and he died right in my arms.
I cried and cried for days and didn't ride for 3 weeks, although I still took Kiwi out for walks all alone but
I still cried alot. I had to continue riding so I did...but with loving memories of Gemini always in my heart.
During Gemini's tragic death, my horses JJ, Kiwi and Unique were a great help to me through my depression.
I sat in their stables during my free time, sometimes with a friend and most of the time alone. I'd have lunch
with Kiwi, who always shared my food, even McDonalds and ice-cream, sit with JJ, the sweetest and second most
beautiful horse of the stable, when i slept in his stable he would also lie down dead flat and put his head on my lap.
Anyways, JJ was a 7 year-old chesnut warmblood cross with the best strides and movements in the stable. He was a proud
horse, always walking like a model and showing off his beautiful self - after all he had the best coat around. He could
never jump so I never used him in a competition but he was undoubtly the best dressage horse. Not only that, he had the
best temperament, never bite, never kicked, just plain old innocent sweetie. Oh yeah i forgot one real obvious point
about him, he had the most slender and elegent feet and hoofs that looked like a prize winning welsh show pony.
Unique, 14.2hand Pure Arab mare was my best horse on trail after Gemini. She was small but somehow, during one of my
many playful races, she managed to overtook my friend's horse. Doesn't sound too special but the thing is, my friend's
horse was a champion class 1 racehorse - a full pedigree bred thoroughbred. I swear I have never been so fast on a horse
than on Unique. She still belongs to me now and I still ride her fast to help my confidence in jump-offs and speed classes.
While all this happened, I was also exercising my dad's fantastic showjumper, Silhouette(above). He was a great horse and lucky
for me, he was pretty much the right size, if not a tiny bit small. He stood at a good 16.2hands and he was pure black with
an absolutely adorable face. He was stated as one of the best jumpers in Malaysia and he was great dressage too.
My dad had a bad accident on him so I was asked to take over the job on keeping his name up. I took him first in juniors,
then on with Young Riders, winning quite a lot of ribbons. Silhouette was a rather difficult horse to jump cos he had a
huge jump and he always sorts of kicks or bucks after the jump and during flight. We have recently sold him though. But
it seems that everyone including his new owner, has fallen off him while jumping. Lucky me, while I had him I never fell
off! But Silhouette was the laziest horse ever. He'd fall asleep during his lunch and only realise it when he falls on his
knees and it was hard to ride him without a whip. He hates jazz music during competition but he loved heavy metal when I played
it in his stable. Weird huh? Cool that he suits me, he loves metal too!
My current competition horse is Desdemona, the most beautiful horse in the stables, better than JJ. Not to mention better.
'Mona' was used by George Sanna in the Volvo World Cup Qualifiers and got a placing. She's a fantastic jumper, the best horse
but the most difficult. A 13 y.o warmblood mare with a thick arched neck and a lovely long figure, she was perfect. But no one
could really ride her well apart from my instructor, Damian who is shortlisted for Sydney 2000. He said once that I couldn't
ride Mona until about 4 years time when I'd really develop myself. He won many big classes on Mona. I hope to have Mona in
good competitions soon...
I have since moved to a new state and brought Desdemona with me. And now I'm looking for a new competition horse for myself..
preferably an Irish Draught showjumper. I currently share a retired racehorse called Marathon whom I ride at the beach often.
