1. Katie Noelle Holmes was the fifth Holmes child, born in Toledo, Ohio,
on December 18, 1978.

2. Katie says she loved being the baby of the family.  One of the perks:
Hanging around her older brother's cute friends.  Katie says she had 
crushes on all of them.

3. Unlike her sisters and bro, Katie's not athletic.  that's why she 
got into acting.  " had to do something," she says.  "So I tried out 
for musicals at my school.

4. Growing up, Katie couldn't stand getting in trouble.  "If (my parents)
even yelled at me, it would tear me apart," she says.

5. Katie was a late bloomer-for a long time, the main man in her life 
was Ken (as in, Barbie's boyfriend).

6. While the rest of the world is eating, Katie and her family exercise 
on Thanksgiving.  They run in the morning and bowl at night.

7. So how did Katie get into acting?  She was "discovered" by a talent
scout at a modeling convention in New York.

8. She really wanted to pursue an acting career, but her father was 
totally against it.  After some arm twisting, he fimally said okay.

9. Katie got a part in a movie on her first audition.  She played Tobey
Maguire's crush in The Ice Storm.

10. Katie's second audition was for Dawson's Creek.  She sent Kevin 
Williamson a tape of herself reading Joey's lines while her mom read 
Dawson's.  One of her lines was "How often DO you masturbate?"  So 
embarrassing, right?

11. She couldn't try out in person 'cause she was committed to her high 
school play and didn't want to let her friends down.

12. As we all know, Katie got the part.  So she had to defer her acceptance 
to Columbia University.

13. Columbia?  That's Ivy League!  yep, she's a brainiac.  Katie graduated
high school with straight A's.

14. Smart as she is, Katie says she still mispronounces Joey's big words. 
"And Mr. Van Der Beek always makes a note of it," she adds.  (Hey, we 
have a hard time just understanding them!)

15. As for her fling with Josh Jackson, Katie doesn't like to talk 
about it.  But she does say, "It was pleasant.  It was wonderful."

16. What kind of guy does she fancy?  "I'm more apt to go for a dark-
haired man."  (Guess that's why she chose Josh over James in real life.)

17. This summer, Katie's set to star in the thriller "Killing Mrs. Tingle."
She plays an ultra-smart student who plots to kill her teacher, Mrs. 
Tingle.

18. Katie says she loved doing the film 'cause she got to work with 
Molly Ringwald.  "My favorite movie when I was growing up was 'Pretty 
in Pink,'" she says.

19. If you want to warm up to Katie, buy her a cup of coffee.  "I must
have a Starbucks vanilla latte every day.  Otherwise, it's going to be 
a bad day." she says.

20. So, what's in Katie's future?  "I hope I'm at a nice place in my 
career," she says.  "I hope I'm starting college or have already gone.
And I hope I'm in love."
