LUNA SEA is my absolute favorite band. I
described, elaborated, and went on and on about how much I love them and why in
the previous, un-uploaded LS page I made... but for reasons too complicated to
go into, I lost that - or rather, I can't have access to it at the moment, and
I'm just not inclined to make another full-blown LS page when I'd already made
one. I'm lazy that way ^^. Anyway, my laziness doesn't detract from the fact
that Luna Sea is my absolute favorite band, possibly in the whole known universe
^^;. The music they produced, in my opinion, is excellent, innovative, and
distinctly them, no matter if it's rock, pop, electronic, sentimental or
whatever. Lunacy, admittedly, is quite a departure from their earlier
works, but I think it shows how versatile LS could be when they wanted to. I
think they would have reached new and amazing musical heights if they had not
disbanded when they did (umm, I actually cried when I realized they were
disbanding ^^;;;). Anyway. Their first album I listened to was Shine in
1998, and I've since listened to songs produced before that and I love them and
I also love their newer stuff. Since their disbandment I've also heard some of
their solo works (Ryuichi, Inoran and J's) and though they're okay, I don't
think they're comparable to the music they made collectively as Luna Sea. I was
first introduced to J-rock through X Japan, but Luna Sea made me a fan.
My favorite LS songs:
Extremely favorite ^^ (in no particular order)
Face to Face, Wish, Precious, Rosier, In My Dream (with Shiver),
Time is Dead, Time has Come, Gravity (I think I had to listen to this song
twenty times before appreciating it), White Out, In Silence, Claustrophobia, Blue
Transparency, RA-SE-N, Stay, Loveless, Mother, Slave, Jesus, Imitation,
Another, 4 A.M., Until the Day I Die.
Favorite (in no particular
order again)
Virgin Mary, Genesis of Mind ~ Yume no kanata e, Providence,
Civilize, Love Song, Into the Sun, Search for Reason, Rain, Tonight, G, Hurt, Shine, No Pain, Broken, Crazy about You, Sweetest Coma Again (with DJ Krush), A Vision,
Luv U, Ray, and practically everything except...
Uh, I don't really like these
songs (in order)
Kiss - I have to skip this song when I'm listening to Lunacy.
I just have to, for the sake of my sanity. I simply cannot sit through the
entirety of Kiss.
Well, actually that's about it. I don't particularly like Feel, Be
Gone and Be in Agony, but I don't dislike them.

I didn't like this song when I first heard it. It seemed so different that I
didn't think LS could have actually produced it. I thought it was too saccharine
and Ryuichi sounded weird in it. It didn't help when I saw a Music Station
performance of Gravity and Ryuichi's vocals was such that I almost had a
toothache. But after a while, it grew on me (the song, that is. I still can't
believe Ryuichi sounded like that on the MS ep). The intro is very long but
melodic and builds up an atmosphere that lasts throughout the song. Gravity
is very nice, not dark like their earlier ballad Mother perhaps, but
sweetly mournful.
From Lunacy, used as the theme for the Japanese release of the James Bond
movie (um, I think it's The World is Not Enough but I don't know). Cool,
fast and catchy with electronic effects.
From Shine. Sugizo's guitar solo in this is one of my favorites.
Fan-favorite. Watching them perform this on stage (well, via the screen) is
amazing. The crowd seems to go wild and the band members go wild themselves ^^.
I think this song is close to perfect - Ryuichi sounds great, I love the guitars
(especially Sugizo's during J's solo speech), and everything seems to meld
together to make a really great song.
Title track of their 1998 album. Happy, upbeat and catchy.
One of my favorites from Lunacy. Ryuichi sounds strange here but not
unappealing. This and White Out sound as if they have a running theme
going (Inoran wrote both, which might explain it).
I love this song. That Luna Sea could come out with something so totally
different from their traditional sound is, I think, proof of their versatile
talent. This song is very light, light as snow, wistful and sad.
