Amis Lee (Kingsley Amis and my mom's surname)

Last time I checked, still human.

People I'm inspired by
Ms G ~ It was a pleasure to be taught by her. A dedicated and wonderful teacher.
hide ~ This amazing man was so full of incredible talent I am speechless with admiration. He turned contemporary music into something magical and wonderful for me, and for that I am always grateful. For the first time I believed that music - and not only the written word - could connect creator and audience so instantaneously. I love his songs, and I love him.

Things I like
New places, books, music, rain, evenings, sleep, cats and dogs, anime and manga, old stuff, photographs, bodies of water, fall.

Favorite books I've never read (one day... one day!)
James Joyce's Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and Ulysses
Seamus Heaney's translation of Beowulf
Slam Dunk and Angel Sanctuary in the original Japanese

I'm in the middle of...
The Lord of the Rings which was given to me by a friend more than two years ago... I am now only in the middle of The Two Towers, though I guess this can be considered a reread - however, I remember next to nothing from my first foray into Middle-earth six or seven years ago. I am enjoying it immensely... I'm thankful that I can read it slowly and appreciatively rather than in my usual devouring fashion.

A poem I read recently that has stayed with me was...
Nights of 1990 by Richard McCann

If someone asks me which is my favorite poem ever, the first thought that comes to my mind is
Sailing to Byzantium by W.B. Yeats

Favorite poets
Shelley, Yeats, T.S. Eliot, Wallace Stevens, Keats.

Current favorite novel
The Lord of the Rings

Favorite novel
"Novel"? Singular? Um... Through the Looking Glass.

Current favorite anime series
Cardcaptor Sakura

Favorite anime series ever
Slam Dunk

Current favorite manga
When I came back home and had access to my manga collection again, I picked up a random volume of Slam Dunk and ended up rereading the entire thing, being reminded rather strongly how much I loved the story.

Favorite manga ever
Slam Dunk, obviously. I recommend everybody to read this.

Current favorite movie
The Two Towers, even though Peter Jackson killed Haldir off - my favorite movie LotR character! The battle at Helm's Deep alone is worth the price of admission.

Favorite movie ever
Spirited Away. Words cannot do justice to this loveliest of Miyazaki Hayao's impressive body of work.

Currently I love listening to...

Favorite bands
Coldplay, System of a Down, The Tea Party, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, October Project, The Chieftains, The Smashing Pumpkins.

Favorite J-rock
hide, Luna Sea, Glay (their older stuff), Fake?, La'cryma Christi.

Idiot box one just can't get enough of
Smallville. The obsession has slackened though, after moving back home where there's no WB. Apparently a local channel will be showing the first season soon *rolls eyes*.

Currently I think...
Michael Rosenbaum is really hot ^_^ and a talented, charismatic actor. He's the reason I don't think Smallville is a commercial, dull, downright shallow piece of crap.

Playing on my mp3 right now is
God by Tori Amos

My wallpaper right now is
Rociel from Angel Sanctuary
and before that it was
A close-up picture of Da'an (Leni Parker) from Earth: Final Conflict.

My Winamp skin is
Sugizo from Luna Sea.

What's with all the arbitrary full stops?

You want to say something to me?

~never seen~

The Red Queen shook her head. "You may call it 'nonsense' if you like," she said, "but I've heard nonsense, compared with which that would be as sensible as a dictionary!" ~Lewis Carroll
