This is not the Hole I remember...Instead of aggressive and hardcore music we are now greeted with what happens after Courtney Love invades Hollywood. Songs like "Teenage Whore" and "Gutless" are history. We now listen to the sounds of "Malibu", "Heaven Tonight" and "Awful" (which is, by the way, awful). Hole's songs are now less truthful and are catchy and easy to listen to. The aggression seems to be gone from this band. I am disappointed. After four years of waiting for this album... Hm. Well, I may be being too hard on the album. It's true that some of it is bad, but it definitely has moments. "Dying", "Northern Star" and "Petals" may not sound like the old Hole, but they are interesting and good highlights on the album. One can sense some emotion here. "Boys On the Radio is like a remix of "Sugarcoma". So it's a bit familliar. Perhaps one has to forget they are listening to Hole to enjoy this album. It's great that Courtney has cleaned up her act for her little daughter, and that she can have her life back after her drug addiction and the death of Kurt, but I miss the good, traditional, hardcore Hole that I grew up with. RATING: Maybe 2 1/2?
