Wayne fashioned this cross with spike rescued from the Knap of Reeds Creek at the site of an old grist mill. We know that some of the Veazeys built a grist mill somewhere on this creek. The base is a combination of mortar and rock from the same mill site. The "Crown of Thorns" was fashioned from 1942 vintage barbed wire that fenced in the Veazey cemeteries for the duration of Camp Butner and World War II.
