The tomboy, smart mouth vixen of our nightly soap opera, Joey Potter
(Katie Holmes) is Dawson Leary's Best Friend. The two of them have known
each other since they were little kids. Always sleeping over each other's
houses. Even through their rageing hormones, Joey still rows her boat across the creek,
over his house, almost every night to watch movies and sleep over.
She sits and listens to him patiently. Hearing all his worries, tramas,
and girl adventures. Wishing she could be one of his girl adventures too,
but knowing that he'll never look at her as anything but his best friend.
Her father cheated on her mother while her mother died of cancer. He went
to prision and Joey lives with her sister, Bessie, and her black boyfriend,
Brodie. She has really learned to take care of herself.
She and Pacey
always fight, which I think it is displaced anger she projections onto
him.
Joey gets awesome grades in school because she thinks that school is the only
way out of Capeside. She wants to leave the tiny town and, in 20 years,
end up on a romantic cruise with her dream guy or exploring in Artic.
She just wants to leave her terrible memories behind.
When she went into a pageant (purely to win money), Jen helped
her get all dolled up. That made Dawson really notice her. Now
they both know the feelings they have for each other. I hope
it lasts for them.
