Mission San Juan Capistrano in the little town
bearing Orange County, California, fifty-eight miles south from Los Angeles
and the State Highway leading to San Diego. The
mission is one of twenty-one vast establishments, historical reminders
of the great Franciscan adventure, the ruins of which stand in wonder
and beauty along 600 miles of glorious golden coast region.
Seventh in order of establishment. Mission
San Juan Capistrano was founded by Father Junipero Serra of the Franciscan
Order, on November 1st, 1776. Since
that day in 1776, the Mission has been an active center of California life.
The bells in the Campanario still peal forth the Angelus daily, still call
the faithful to worship. Thousands of
people annually visit the Mission and find it most beautiful and interesting.
