The Runaway Jury/Take My Word For It/Nirvana/Hole
John Grisham.The Runaway Jury.Island.9 (fr.
Breakfast #7)
I've always enjoyed Grisham books...let's see, I've read The Client,
The Firm, and The Chamber. They always inspire me to do things.
This didn't, though. I loved it anyway. A young man (Nicholas Easter) whose
girlfriend (Marlee)'s parents' deaths were both caused by smoking, makes
his way onto a jury for a Big Tobacco case. Seemingly taking a leadership
position on the jury, he gets everyone to vote the Tobacco [the equivalent
of] guilty, but also convinces the head of the Big Four that he will win
the case for them--at a 10 million dollar price. Though parts here seem
to be twisted up, everything makes sense and still goes by the law. The
10 million is eventually returned, showing that ppl like this still have
a sense of honesty. I couldn't put this one down.
John Marsden.Take My Word For It.Pan Macmillan
Australia.8 (fr. Breakfast #7)
This is the mandatory sequel to the popular So Much To Tell You.
The latter is a school journal by Marina, whose face is in some way deformed,
and goes to a boarding school. Marina has many thoughts and fears, desires
and needs, and so does another girl in her dorm, Lisa. In Take My Word
For It, Lisa talks about the ppl in her dorm, the problems in her family
and life, and her longing for the farm estate her family used to live on,
'Conneware'. There is always something you want to find out, even though
her happiness in rowing, running, and basketball sidetracks you. Some parts
make you laugh, and some you can identify with. Either way, this is something
you have to read.
Nirvana.Nevermind.Geffen.5 (out of 5)
(fr. Breakfast #2)
Did you know that Nevermind is an album so great that it is still on the
Billboard Top 200 in sales, even though it was released in 1991? The only
album that has been on longer is the Highlights of the Phantom of the Opera
(which I must say is an equally great album). Nevermind has so many highlighting
songs. The fact that Kurt Cobain, Krist Noveselic and Dave Grohl are all
ppl who have experienced real pain, makes it a lot more inspiring and emotional
than it otherwise might be. In the song "Come As You Are," Cobain
talks about his relationship with riot grrrl Tobi Vail (of Bikini Kill).
The reason why I bought this album was because the late Kurt was Courtney
Love's husband. And though I hate to say so, I like Hole better than Nirvana.
Nirvana was practically the motherhood of grunge, but I don't really know
any other bands in the genre. I mean, what, Pearl Jam??? Or even Hole?
I don't think so. Nirvana were labelled sellouts, but the only ppl the
sold out to were the real sellouts--the alternative media.
Hole.Plugged & Unplugged.KTS.9 (fr
Breakfast #6)
This is the kewlest CD I have ever bought. Not only is it a KTS bootleg,
but 10/21 songs are not on Live Through This. This has the MTV Unplugged
session and another thing. One of my fave non-LTT songs is Best Sunday
Dress. I love it! It's a Hole rarity from the Sugar Baby Doll days.
Also, this has some kewl concert/non-concert pix. I found this at the best
CD store here, CD
Warehouse . That place is so kewl it had Nirvana's Hoarmaning,
a RaRe Japanese/Australian release. Back to the CD. Well, for a bootleg,
the sound was great, so I guess ppl don't lie when they say KTS are good
quality! Also, CLove adds some extra lyrics when on stage so that's a treat!
For example in "I Think That I Would Die": "God I hate
you, God now he's dead." And the song Old Age is a b-side of
Credit In the Straight World, the Young Marble Giants cover Hole
did on LTT. I can't say anything except that I love this CD...
