1988 AND 1994 PICTURES FROM THE SHOWGROUND

On ths page are pictures of the 1988 re-opening of the Sydney Showground Speedway after it closed in 1981.

There are also some pictures of the last Test Match between England and Australia ever to be held at this venue... The Date , New Years Day 1994
The first Test Match held at the "Royale" between these two rivals was on the 15th December 1934; almost 60 years earlier.

The packed stands are testimony to the popularity of Speedway in Australia ,Particularly Sydney.

The new Showground speedway opened at the Homebush Bay arena on the 1st May 1999 before a crowd of 5000 people.

This is a world class facility and being adjacent to the new Olympic site, has the capacity to attract huge crowds.
