A Aids - all of the ways in which a rider or driver communicates what he or she wants from the horse.

B Bareback - When you ride without a saddle.

Bedding - Usually in its stall, the most common types of bedding are straw, peatmoss, or shavings.

Bit - Part of the bridle that goes into the horse's mouth.

Bite - A collective term for horses' teeth.

Bolt - When a horse runs away uncontrollably.

Bridle - The heagear used on a horse's head for riding.

Broodmare - A mare used for breeding purposes.

C Colt - A male horse up to the age of 4 y.o.

D Dam - mother of a horse.

F Farrier - A blacksmith who trims the horses feet and shoes them.

Filly - A female horse less than 4 y.o.

Foal - A young horse less than a year old. Also to give birth to a foal.

G Gelding - a castrated male horse.

H Halter - head gear made out of leather, nylon, or cotton -- used for tying up or holding a horse.
