"Thanks mom" She said grabbing a glass out of the cupboard. She crossed the tiny kitchen to the fridge and poured herself a glass of orange juice. She took a big gulp. "MMMm" she said making a face before she swallowed. "This is hot!"
"Yeah i know, the fridge is broke again and since your father left i dont have the money to fix it."
Lindsay twisted the gold ring her father had giving her arouond her finger as she thought back to the day two months ago when she woke up to find out that her father had left them in the middle of the night. He hadnt even bothered to leave a note explaining why she thought. Ever since then, her mother worked her fingers to the bone, pulling double shifts at the tiny cafe she worked at just to stay ahead of the bills.
"Mom, i told you you can take some money out of my savings account. I dont mind. I want you to."
"I will not go around taking money you worked hard for. I'll find the money soemwhere to get it fixed." She said giving her a hug.
"You sure?"
"Positive. What are you doing today?"
She smiled "Nick is back in town. Im gonna hang with him today." She and Nick had been best freinds since third grade when she fell off the jungle gym and he ran and got help. She hadnt seen him for 8 months. He had been touring Europe with his band, the Backstreet Boys. Even though he called her almost every day, she still missed him like crazy when he went away.
The thing is, she had loved Nick since 7th grade. She reminiced back to when some guy was trying to ask her out. Nick had known she didnt like him and had told him to back off, that she was his girl. Then, to prove it, he had kissed her. She reached up and touched her lips, thinking about his lips pressed to hers.
Her mom smiled, reading her mind. "So when are you going to meet loverboy?" she asked, knowing how her daughter felt about him.
"His plane comes in at 10:00"
Her mother looked at the clock. "Its 9:45."
"Huh" she looked up from her breakfast at the clock. "Oh shit!" She yelled, getting up. "I promised to meet him at the airport!"
Her mother tossed her the keys to her Accord. "Be careful with my car!" She chucked to herself as Lindsay ran out the door without any shoes on. She picked her nikes up from the floor and held them out.
Two seconds later, Lindsay came running in. "Thanx mom, your the best" she said grabbing the shoes and giving her a kiss on the cheek.
She ran outside to where she had left the car running. She threw her shoes on the passanger seat as she peeled out from the driveway. As she sped down the street towards the airport she turned on the radio, trying to calm her racing heart. But every time she thought about Nick, it would beat faster.
She took out her Backstreet Boys CD and stuck it in the player. She cranked up Hey Mr. DJ, her favorite song, as she sped down the highway.
