I have been working on this bike since February 1998 (this pic was
taken in August of '98). When I recieved the bike, it had been siting
in the open for 8 or 9 years without being run. I discovered a fungus
GROWING in the carborator bowl upon opening up the carb!!! So as
you might have guessed, this bike has come a long way in the past couple
of months! :)
Welcome to my pride and joy... My 1965, 65cc, Honda Sport Cub.
This is my first restoration project. I acquired this bike
in October of 1992 for $25.00. At the timeit was in the form of a cardboard
box of rusty, dented up, and bent up old parts that semi-resembled a bike!
I slaped it all together and messed with it for a few weeks and lost interest
with it...(couldn't make it run)... So I let it sit (rust some more)
up until the summer of 1996 when I woke up one morning looking for a good
summer project... and man was it ever! :-) I worked on it EVERY day
from about 9:00am until around 1:00am for the whole summer. I hand
sanded each painted or rusty part down to bare clean metal, primed, and
painted 5 coats of OEM factory color (which wasn't easy to find mind you)
wet sanding each coat and color sanding the final color coat with a 3 clear
coats to finish it off. I had the motor rebuilt, and had a new piston
put in along with a 3 way valve job.
Needless to say... "THIS IS ONE HONEY OF A HONDA!"
:-)
Meet "Sweet Pea", the first bike of my arsonal. She is a 1987 model
Trac Clipper moped. This is the moped that I learned how to ride on.
I got this bike when I was 8 years old (Christmas of 1990) and barely able
to get my leg over. :) Man... Sweet Pea and I had some good times
together... *buzz remembers all the good times*... This bike and I went
everywhere for about five or six years! :)
FINALLY!!!! A REAL BIKE! :)
This is the first "real" bike I ever bought. A '80 model, Suzuki
GS550E. And the first bike I have ever wrecked. On January
11th, 1998 I was cruising around 65mph when a truck (Toyota 4runner) pulled
out in front of me without looking my way. I struck the passenger
side door of the truck at a 90 degree angle. I straightened my back/neck,
aimed for the passenger side window, and braced for impact. I woke
up about fourty five minutes later in an ambulance, with no broken bones,
no serious cuts, or any major injuries other than badly cut up knees and
a bunch of smaller cuts. As for the bike... well... that was another
story...
The bikes front end had squashed into the motor/exhaust head pipes,
and basically crushed the whole front end. The Forks on the bike
were bent at about a 25-30 degree angle, the wheel had a flat spot about
a foot long, the gagues were crunched. My handle bars were twisted
from me holding on at impact with a death grip, that managed to bend one
side forward about 3 inches.
Recently, I have taken on
the project of turning it into a chopper... I can't afford a harley
chopper (or even a harley motor for that matter!)... so ya do with what
ya got! lol! I have lowered it down to about 4 3/4 inches, turned
the rear suspension into a solid mount rigid style, stretch the frame up
about 6 er 7 inches, and up 5 er 6 inches giving me somewhere around 42
degrees of rake. I have fiberglassed a rear fender simmilar to the
one on the model bike adding alluminum strips for strength/support.
I
have modeled this bike after the harley in the movie, "Harley Davidson
& The Marlboro Man." (click to see a pic and specs of
the bike...) I am planing on geting some new upper fork
tubes, with 8 maybe 9 inch extentions, to hold the new 21" wheel on.
If have ever "chopped"
a bike before, and would be willing to offer suggestions or advice, it
would bej greatly accecpted!
Oh yeah... ya remember about
the money thing? Well.... at the current stage, I have all
of 35 bucks in her! My final costs are expected to be around
$150-$300 (this may sound like I'm crazy... but it's true because I have
made pretty much everything... even the handle bars and seat)!
Not too bad huh?
